Baleston.org . . . a modest family Genealogy website

From approx. 1894 to 1914 several members of the Baleston family immigrated to the United States from the general area of Plock Province in Poland. This is a Yiddish speaking, Jewish family. It is known that in Europe their original name was a variation of Bialystok or Bialistock or Bialistocky. Some extended family members went to England.

From my own family records and additional research, I know of 3 brothers and 2 sisters who came to the USA:
Isaac, Jacob, Anna, Isidore and Adele. Their common father was Yusef/Joseph Bialystok, born circa 1849.
Initially they all lived in Brooklyn, NY and worked in the Garment Industry. All are buried at New York metro area Jewish Cemeteries.

Isaac Baleston born 1876, married Rose Mantel in 1899, they had 3 daughters: Helen, Flora and Gertrude

Jacob Baleston born 1878, married Anna in 1904, their daughters were Helen and Ruth

Anna Baleston born 1889, married Philip Edelstein in 1911, their 3 children: Milton, Ruth and Joseph

Isidore Baleston born 1895, married Sarah Siegel in 1916, their 3 children: Etta, Joseph and Samuel

Adele Baleston born 1899, married Philip Feld in 1923, their daughters were Pearl and Lillian

Isidore Baleston born 1895, married Sarah Siegel in 1916. She was born in Felshtin, Ukraine. She had four brothers, all born in Felshtin: Isaac, Samuel, Joseph & Motti Siegel.  Sam, Joe & Sarah came to America by 1910. In 1919 there was a horrific pogrom in Felshtin, just years after they left. The youngest brother, Motti/Mottel Siegel, was murdered during the pogrom. Isaac and his family barely escaped, coming to America in 1921. At various times the Siegel family in America owned and operated a variety of business's including M & S Steam Cleaning Laundries in Brooklyn, NY and Liberty, Sullivan Co. NY, and a small jewelry store in Brooklyn. I've begun talking with one descendant, and am seeking others.

Ever since my own son's Bar Mitzvah I have appreciated the need to pass this knowledge to him.

I have registered at several large, online Genealogy website and am finding relatives there. This website is an additional effort to find relatives, and freely display some family history.
It is a friendly, sincere effort to connect with extended family,
it is non-sectarian and respectful of all members of our extended family whatever pathway they have taken through life, and fully independent of any group I'm otherwise associated with.
